To remove so many pollutants, the DustMagnet 5440i uses a two-stage method that starts with a pair of unique charged stainless steel pre-filters and ends with Blueair’s unique HEPASilent™ Combination filter.
For best results, Blueair recommends cleaning the pre-filter regularly and replacing the HEPASilent™ filter whenever the filter replacement indicator lights up on the interface. Typically this occurs every 6 - 12 months.
When used in its AUTO mode, the DustMagnet 5440i can independently alter its fan speed based on the detected air quality. Therefore, during periods of low air quality, it can increase the speed setting to reduce pollutant levels swiftly.
Additionally, the unit converts the air quality information it gathers into a colour based scale. An LED indicator then displays the corresponding level by changing its colour to either blue, green, yellow, amber or red.
Rounding out the filtration package offered by the DustMagnet 5440i is the ability to alter the fan speed. There are a total of four settings available, and the highest level, “3”, offers the best filtration performance.

In terms of user experience, the 5440i is second to none, and if desired, it can be controlled remotely through the Blueair app. The app grants remote access to all functions and monitoring metrics, making it easy to tweak settings based on data.
It is also compatible with select voice control services including Amazon Alexa and Google Home. Allowing for easy and hands-free settings changes when in the vicinity of a smart device.
Alternatively, it is also possible to control the unit through a conventional interface. Thanks to its intuitive design, the interface makes it easy to change settings quickly and provides clear feedback on surrounding air quality.
Beyond being easy to use, the DustMagnet 5440i is quiet when active, and its HEPASilent™ filters produce 10% less noise than traditional HEPA filters.
While operating at its lowest fan speed, it only produces 30 dB of noise. That’s equivalent to the sound of whispering, making it suitable for use at night time.
Matching those quiet noise levels, the DustMagnet 5440i is also very power efficient. When active, it only requires a maximum of 42 watts of power. As a result, it’s cheap to run, even for extended periods.
Last but not least, the Blueair DustMagnet 5440i is certified by multiple industry bodies, including AHAM (Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers and Energy Star.
